Spatial transcriptomics is a very exciting technology used to profile tissue samples through which the transcriptomic data can be extracted and the positional context of the cells in the tissue can be discovered. It has the potential to revolutionize genetics by demonstrating a clear path to a quick and cost efficient transcriptomics analysis of tissues. An added advantage is that high-throughput measurements can be done while preserving the spatial information of the tissues and the sub-cellular localization of nucleic acids. Using maskless photolithography high-resolution and cost-efficient microarrays can be produced which would then be used to perform the spatial transcriptomics experiments. Among other projects, the established workflow would mainly focus on identifying the molecular mechanism of crops when subjected to various biotic and abiotic stresses.
